RECAP
Eco-Friendly Products
Gaia Natural Cleaning Products - Gaia natural cleaning products are relatively new to me, but I quickly became a fan once I tried them! Their products are non-toxic and made with simple, yet effective ingredients such as Castile soap, baking soda, washing soda, and pure essential oils. They have products for all of your cleaning needs, ranging from an All-Purpose cleaning spray and laundry detergent, to dishwasher detergent and a glass cleaner. You can find their products at TJ Maxx, Home Goods, and Marshall's as well as on their website or on Amazon here.
TubShroom/SinkShroom - These little contraptions are seriously amazing! They fit directly into your drain and catch all hair before it goes down the drain, preventing clogs. This is an eco-friendly alternative to using harsh chemicals such as Drain-o, and much more cost effective than calling a plumber! They're super simple to use and are extremely affordable! Once it fills up, you take it out to clean it, and can put it right back! Find them on Amazon here and here. They also have a shower version that you can find here
Green Living Tips
Shop local and shop smart - Whether you are looking for an authentic vintage look, or you just love a bargain, shopping at local thrift stores is not only a great way to score some unique finds, it is also an eco-friendly way to shop instead of buying new! My boyfriend and I have found some seriously good deals at the local Salvation Army and Goodwill, such as brand new golf shifts with tags still attached for $1.75! You can't beat that! Thrift stores also have great deals on furniture as well!
Reduce Your Water Consumption By Cutting Back On Dairy - Maybe you were expecting the standard "turn off your faucet while brushing your teeth" tip here, which IS still helpful, BUT, if you really want to make a dent in reducing your water consumption, cutting back on dairy can actually help! According to Michigan State University, daily water consumption PER COW can range from about 29 gallons of water upwards to 50 gallons. This is a mixture of drinking water and waste water. That's A LOT of water! Organic dairy is the way to go (if cutting it out just isn't an option, organic farming is proven to be better for the environment than conventional farming) However, cutting back on dairy is extremely easy to do these days, as there's an abundance of tasty, plant-based alternatives on the market right now! I myself have cut back drastically on consuming dairy for multiple reasons, so I am very familiar with this market! I first swapped out milk in my coffee for almond, coconut, or soy milk. These days, you can find a rang of plant-based milks such as almond, pecan, hazelnut, oat, hemp, coconut, soy, macadamia and cashew! Califia Farms and MALK are two of my favorites! There are also some delicious plant-based cheeses and yogurts that taste just like the real thing! (Kite Hill, Forager Project, Miyoko's Cheese, So Delicious).
There are many other studies showing water use on pastures and farms, which I will to a few below!
What is one thing you would like to "green" in your life? I'd love to help! Stay tuned for more green living tips and eco-friendly product suggestions this week! Don't forget to check out your local Earth Day Festivals, and swap to eco-friendly and non-toxic products whenever possible!
If you're in san Diego, check out the earth fair at balboa park this sunday, april 22nd! I'll be there!
